Celebration is the watchword as we get set to mark this milestone: this is all about the event itself rather than the outcome, and our 30th season is sure to strike a purely festive chord.
Each of these women—Sophie, Ève, Victoria, Séverine and Manon—has found meaning in creative dance, and each is able to deal with uncertainty so that she can live to the fullest and continue on a path of discovery.
This performance series is intended to give you, the public, a taste of this creative drive. It’s a well kept secret that a work matures during a performance cycle—that’s to say when it meets, and is influenced by, the audience. For the last 15 years (since the 1997-98 season) we’ve erred in favour of itinerancy, reflecting a return of sorts to our roots. This year, therefore, Danse-Cité will be an active part of the season programs at the Agora de la danse, ESPACE GO, Usine C and the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT].
A warm word of thanks goes out to all of the people—artists and artisans, administrative, production and communications directors, board members, technical directors, technicians, volunteers, sponsors and donors—who’ve contributed to this adventure over the years, and to the three arts councils who’ve supported it.
As we count down to Danse-Cité’s 30th anniversary on May 25, 2012, I wish you all an excellent season on behalf of the entire team at Danse-Cité.
