Touching, hearing, sensing dance

A roundtable bringing together dance artists and blind or partially sighted people, centered on the project Laboratory of Multiple Sensorialities.

Do we need to see dance to fully experience it? How can we let ourselves be moved by its motions, inhabited by its states, stirred by its intensities, while letting go of the primacy of sight? How do we consciously activate the multiplicity of our senses within a choreographic experience? These are among the questions raised by the Laboratory of Multiple Sensorialities, a project led by Danse-Cité that brought together three dance artists and nine blind or partially sighted participants during exploratory workshops in fall 2025.

On December 8, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tribune 840 (UQAM – Department of Dance) and Danse-Cité invite the artistic and academic communities to join a collective moment of sharing around the insights and discoveries sparked by these workshops. Experimental and collaborative in nature, they offered participants living with partial or total blindness the opportunity to act as artistic collaborators alongside the choreographers. How did these encounters shift preconceived ideas about dance, creation, accessibility, sensoriality, and blindness?

The roundtable will combine discussion and performative moments that reflect the poetry and relational depth at the heart of the Laboratory of Multiple Sensorialities.
