Thanks to your donation, we commit to:

  • 💚 Expand the offering of shows offered with audio description

  • 💚 Reach and welcome a greater number of blind and partially sighted individuals

  • 💚 Develop new partnerships in Quebec

  • 💚 Share our expertise

Dedicated to blind and partially sighted audiences, audio description consists in describing the visual elements of a work to facilitate their understanding. For the past 3 years, we have been designing personalized and adapted cultural experiences for our audience, from the moment they enter the venue to the moment they leave. Each event invites visitors to a tactile visit before the audio described performance and a post-show talkback with the artists.

Since autumn 2021:

  • 11 audio-descriptions of dance performances, including 1 youth show

  • 220 participations in our activities

  • 9 presenter partners

  • 4 specialists in audio description of choreographic shows trained

  • 30 people trained to guide a blind person

The sustainable implementation of audio description of live arts performances within the Quebec ecosystem is a pressing need for the lives of many of us. In Quebec, there are over 206,000 individuals living with total or partial blindness (mild to severe visual impairment), with the vast majority living in isolation and below the poverty line.

Help us to continue the cultural journey of blind and partially sighted people. Every donation is one step closer to an inclusive artistic community. Together, let's make audio description a permanent reality at Danse-Cité.
